Seal Your Foundation Vents Shut When Encapsulating

Crawl space foundation vents are always a popular topic among homeowners.

Unfortunately for many DIY homeowners, there’s a lot of bad advice out there and just because it’s online doesn’t mean it’s accurate.

Over the years, I’ve seen countless crawl space contractors and so called gurus discussing crawl space vents.

Before we discuss the rest of the article, let’s take a moment to think. Let’s talk about encapsulating the crawl space.

Common sense talk here everyone.

Now, when you encapsulate your crawl space, the foundation vents must be sealed. There’s no exceptions. I don’t care what any so called expert says, keep your foundation vents sealed.

If our foundation vents are open, won’t moisture get into the crawl space? YES

If moisture gets into the crawl space from the foundation vents, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of encapsulating the crawl space in the first place? YES

Again, you can’t believe everything you read online. Well, except for this website of course. Bottom line, if you’re encapsulating your crawl space, all outside moisture is bad. You have to keep out.
